How To Make A Drawing Of A Flat Pattern In A Multi Body Sheet Metal Part

SOLIDWORKS has supported sail metal multi-trunk parts for the last 2 releases, just that still came equally a pleasant surprise for me.

The advantages are huge and clear — you can design all your sheet metallic components in the context of one function, generate a handy cutting-list and sprinkle the drawings with squeamish balloons, like in assemblies. You tin can even include structural members or regular solids if needed. Oh, and let'due south not forget how squeamish the Edge Flange tin can span 2 separate canvas metal bodies (fig. 1). Magic!

What well-nigh drawings?

The problem seems to appear when yous need to create cartoon views for apartment patterns. You do not seem to get the Apartment Pattern pick in the "Model View" dialog box.

If you accept a moment to think well-nigh it, you lot cannot have a Flat Blueprint for the whole role, since it is now an "assembly" of sheet metal bodies. But each body has its own Flat Blueprint. So let'due south take another expect at the "Model View" dialog box. Take you noticed the piffling "Select Bodies…" push button (fig. 2)?

Fig. 2 – Select Bodies…

Click on it. Y'all will be sent back to the part model and ask to select ane or more bodies. Since you want the Flat Blueprint view, select just one trunk – the i for which y'all desire to create the strip layout.

Now you will see the Apartment Blueprint choice (fig. four).

That's it. Every bit I said… a pleasant surprise in the terminate!
